The atmosphere in Arctic Norway cannot simply be described – it must
be experienced! Variations in weather and terrain are both common and
dramatic. You are practically guaranteed a unique experience as we
drive along the narrow coastline beneath sheer mountains that plunge
vertically into the sea, and traverse expansive mountain plateaus
among grazing flocks of reindeer. We cross deep fjords, too, where we
may catch a glimpse of frolicking whales, or simply make a stop in
order to enjoy the panoramic view as the landscape opens up before us.
The spectrum of colours resulting from the Arctic daylight is perhaps
most distinct in the wintertime or on a gloriously clear autumn day
when the air is crisp. An autumn storm when the sea is churned into
patches of blue and white with sea spray blowing far upon the shore is
also amazing. North Norway is an area of treat diversity, stretching
1000 kilometres from the Arctic Circle to the North Cape. The region
is far from predictable – and visitors can look forward to all sorts
of surprises. Perhaps you would prefer to spend less time travelling
and take things easy along the way. In that case, we also offer
shorter excursions so that you can explore interesting places and
concentrate on your own special adventure.

Northern Norway – The Arctic in Green and White
Many people think of the Arctic as freezing temperatures, and lots of
ice and snow. It is different here. The temperate waters of the Gulf
Stream and the bright nights of spring and summer stimulate all forms
of life here in the far North. Life is bountiful in the light of the
Midnight Sun. We can experience summer temperatures between 20 and
30°C, and often enjoy a refreshing dip in a lake or the sea. The
winter season in Northern Norway varies greatly from north to south
and from coastline to inland regions. While the southern coast might
well be free of snow, there may be meters upon meters of it elsewhere.
Temperatures may vary from 0 to minus -40°C, with rain and snowstorms,
heavy seas, as well as days filled with sunshine and glittering snow
crystals, and nights blessed by he mystical Northern Lights – Aurora
Borealis. Actually, during the midwinter dark season there is hardly
any daylight at all this far north.
